Greg and Kent
The idea of Briar Common started more than 20 years ago when we began to enjoy a new style of beer sweeping the Northwest: The American IPA. After years of brewing small batches literally continents apart, we decided to make Briar Common a reality in 2013. Three years and a few dollars later, we opened Briar Common Brewery + Eatery in October of 2016 with the goal of offering balanced and drinkable beers, complimented by creative gastropub food. We hope you enjoy your time with us.
Greg & Kent Dawson
Family farm in Oregon.
What does “Briar Common” mean? We grew up surrounded by berry farms outside of Portland Oregon. Wild vines grew in huge brambles along the side of the road, pruned only by passing cars. The name represents our common connection to those briar patches we traversed together.
Kent Dawson, co-owner and head of operations
As Garrett Oliver suggested, getting into Craft Brewing “is a story of a diverted life plan”. After more than a decade of starting-up and operating hospice, home care and multi-unit therapy clinics, Kent chose to follow his longtime dream of opening a Brewpub with his brothers.
Greg Dawson, co-owner and head brewer
Greg’s love affair with beer reached new heights nearly 10 years ago when he brewed his first batch on the stove-top of his small Korean apartment. After 11 years living in Seoul, he joined Kent in Denver in 2013 to start-up Briar Common. As a Certified Cicerone® and a BJCP judge, Greg continues to learn and love everything about our favorite beverage.
